Tuesday July 8, from  Marseillette to Carcassonne

Previous Entry

As we have a log day ahead of us; about 22km cruising and 9 locks; we decide to raise early and get on the way.

There is a reason we are not closer to shore, but that might be a question for the next quiz!

A nice estate right on the canal.
slowly we edge into one of the smallest locks of the region ...
Did we make it? Can I come out now?
One last turn, one more lock and we made it into Carcassonne.

We will stay here for a week. David leaves Thursday back to San Francisco (to cool off) and we will stay here for a week.

A perfect space in the port in the center of town.
Sunset lights the canal side hotels and restaurants ...
while Peter is preparing BBQ! Chicken and Merques, a local sausage.
This is the famous Cité of Carcassonne.

On July 14th fireworks will illuminate the old town,

its watchtowers,
rampart and
modern art (green men p....ing!)
overlooking the new part of town
and inside the ramparts many stores like this famous candy-store.

But I'm sure we will have more pictures later in the week!
