Previous Entry

A small aqueduct right after Gardouch.
Waiting on the side of a passenger barge for the lock at Reneville to open. Shari has to wake up the lockkeeper.
A lockkeepers house.
Entering the Ocean lock, the last lock on the Atlantic side.
The water level in the dividing pond is so low, that the roots of the plane trees are fully exposed.
The essential tools of driving a barge:

Radio (nobody on the Canal du Midi uses it), GPS (there are not many ways to get lost), Swiss Army knife tool (for emergency repairs), binoculars (to check for lock door status), depth sounder (too late if the alarm sounds anyway) and Coffee (really essential).

Racine is steering with his hind legs (at least while we are tied up waiting for a lockkeeper to finish his lunch break).
Late afternoon we arrive in the port of Castelnaudary and stay here for a few days.
