After a week in Carcassonne we leave mid morning and head towards more water. A small feeder canal adds water to the canal below Carcassonne and so driving and mooring should become simpler. |

Unfortunately the river Fresquel doesn't look much like a river, rather like a gravel pit! |

Missy and J.D. are visiting us this week and so I have no work with the back ropes as J.D. takes over with competence! |

We leave the Fresquel double lock. |

Our evening stop in Marseillette. |

The light and the colors are definite signs that fall is arriving. |

We leave early morning for a long trip with eleven locks,
but our progress is stopped around 10am when we find the lock-keeper work on
the paddles of a deep double lock. It seems that the paddle (the thing that opens to let water into the lock) in the brand new lock door is jammed. We are told that it is not the first time as it seems that due to a planning error they use just bolts and nuts, but no washers and so once in a while a nut loosens and jams the paddle. Repair happens with big confidence and an even bigger sledge hammer! In 1680 they created doors that held for 300 years and the new ones are rarley a year old and already cause trouble. |

Instead of driving we enjoy the scenery and some of the |

ripe grapes of the Minervois. |

Hey, you there, hey - that sign .... |
![]() |
Lets see; a square sign with a black bollard with a rope,
red edge and red line crossing through the picture. I'm sure that means tie your ropes right around the pole of the sign!

From Homps we visit Aigne, a small village laid out like a snail. |
![]() |
The village hosts many artists, like Pascal Cossin, and we buy a nice sculpture of a cat. |

We have dinner at
Lo Cagarol and enjoy excellent local cuisine. Quite a place to visit!
We will stay in Homps for a few weeks, so no web update until we move again ...... |
