On Thursday the 12th we moved up to the harbor of Agde to
fill up water and do some shopping. The space is reserved for a passenger boat, but since the boat was in Beziers for the night (we asked the captain) we decided to use the empty mooring space. We learned over the last few weeks, that if you ask, the answer is likely a no, if you don't ask then usually nobody bothers. |

The VNF (Voies
Navigables de France) is located in this building right at the
Canal du Midi. VNF is responsible for maintenance of the canals and operation of
the locks among other things. It looks like the building saw better times! |

Another typical bridge over the Canal du Midi rigth outside Agde. The bridge is
about 3m50 high at the center, but only about 2m70 2 meters from the center,
which means our wheelhouse needs to be folded to pass the bridge. The canal passage is about 5m10, Avanti B is 4m55 wide which leaves a little over 25cm on each side (about 10inches). What makes this bridge even harder to pass is the fact that the passage at water level is at an angle with the arc of the bridge. The way to pass these bridges is .... slowly!

How did we get to Venice? |

Our mooring in Vias - water and electricity are available (and both even
work). The only problem is that a sign next to Avanti B says '48h limited stopover', lets see if the French system (see above) works! The weather has been incredibly hot for the last few days. Today our thermometer showed 33C (about 92F) in the shade. Inland it is even hotter, we at least get a nice breeze from the sea which is only about 2km away. To celebrate the hot day, I decided to take a bath in the canal. Well I had to - one of our fenders got loose and since they can be a hazard to screws I decided to get it out of the canal again. It was pleasantly cool and refreshing, but I decided to take a hot shower afterwards anyway. If you wonder why, I'll explain in an e-mail!
