The Marne side canal, as the canal is also called, was completed in 1845. It starts at Vitry-le-François and ends in Dizy above Epernay.
The Canal is commercially still well used, as it lies at a East-West, Marne-Rhine canal, and North-South, Marne-Saône and Aisne-Marne intersection. The canals connect the Rhône with Northern France, Belgium and the Netherlands and Germany and Switzerland with the Paris region.
