The Canal du Loing follows the Loing river. After having cruised on the Centre, the Lateral à la Loire and the Canal de Briare we now complete our journey on the Canaux du Centre as this group of Canals is called.
Construction started in 1719 and first barges cruised on the canal in 1724. The canal originally used the river Loing for seven navigable sections followed by sections of the canal. The canal was much improved during the 19th century and today it uses only two river sections, one at Nemours and the other at St. Mammès.
Frequently we meet the river on our starboard side. The woods are sometimes very thick, making it look like a tropical rainforest.
