Rhinau to Strasbourg - Canal Rhône au Rhin Branche Nord

July 17 - July 18

The two days of cruising complete our passage of the Canal du Rhône au Rhin. We passed the whole South branch from St Symphorien to Mulhouse and the navigable portion of the North branch from Rhinau to Strasbourg.
The Mulhouse-Basel and the Mulhouse-Rhinau portion of the canal were closed when the Grand Canal d'Alsace opened. The Grand Canal d'Alsace allowed Euro Standard sized ships to navigate up to Basel partially on the Rhine and partially on the Canal dug parallel to the Altrhein (Old Rhine).

Our first down-lock of the day. Back to the tight fit of the 5.15m locks

Betty gives rope instructions to her nephews Philipp and a refresher course to Sebastian.

A lock near Krafft were we stay for the night

Avanti B in the Alsace - a postcard picture.

Strasbourg - the river Ill passes through the town. Unfortunately it is only navigable for boats with less draft than the 1.35 Avanti B has.

The main portal of the Strasbourg Münster

One of the low bridges of the river Ill, looks like Venice of the North

The entrance of the Petit France Quarter in Strasbourg with a river lock, used by the numerous tourist boats that offer sightseeing tours.

A small courtyard in mid town.

We are lucky with our mooring as it is below the Ecluse de l'Hopital as it is only 10 minutes walking distance from the cathedral.
