Pikesh - the new Avanti B cat
July 12
You knew, that it would not take long until we would find a new ship's cat.
We looked for a while; we wanted to adopt a young male cat, but it took a while.
The Basel SPCA was not sure if they had any cats to adopt (obviously they have too much money and
don't care too much). A family had advertised kittens to give away, but thought that living on a boat
wasn't the right thing for a cat and that they wanted to give the kittens to a family with children.
Betty was shocked - as she had never heard that she wouldn't be a good cat mother!

But then we found the
Tierheim in Weil am Rhein and this little creature. He was just about 8 weeks old. We had him tested for Feline Leukemia and he is healthy.

On the 16th of July, when all work was completed we took him to the Avanti B.
One of his passions is eating!

An other is playing ...

How do I look in Thomas' police hat?

One of his favorite toys - a (large) duck. It is so great to chew on it! Sometimes he runs around
the ship with the duck in his mouth. Now he is taller, but first the duck had nearly his size.

Since people seem to talk in many languages to him he is studying his French.
So what is his name? The Tierheim had named him Benny, which we didn't like. So we thought about other names:
But we finally decided to name him Pikesh. Pikesh is short for Piz Kesch. Piz Kesch is a mountain in the Swiss Alps, 3418 meters high. But Piz Kesch is also the name of a Rhein-Ship that more than once tied up on our side while we were in Weil.

Notice the right paw bigger than the left paw? He wasn't quite sure if a Wasp was something to
play with or to run away from. So the wasp stung and Pikesh had to go to the Vet to get a
cortisone shot.
Is it just a coincidence that Pikesh was borne on the 20th of April? Remember this is Thomas' birthday and the day we left Beaucaire this spring?
