Project Basel - Part 1
May 17 - June 1
It would be more precise to call this Project Weil am Rhein. Work starts ....

Our mooring - on side of the workshop ship of the
Mattmüller Boatyard in Weil on the Rhine. Sometimes it feels more like high seas when passenger boats or loaded oil tanker zip by!

Lesson 1: Never paint anything under a crane; a raven might house up there and do
his thing two minutes after painting .... As a result the inside of the wheelhouse roof needs another coat of paint!

The old parquet has to go - notice how comfy it looks with just the bare wood floor!
|

Half the kitchen counter is done ...

Another corner of the granite countertop arrives by air delivery.

The new heating stove finds its way through the skylight

All pipes are installed - not without a few curses about the unity in the EU! The
imperial connectors on the hot water boiler and the metric connectors on the stove match
only after putting conversion pieces into all the connecting lines.

A head-less engine. Compression is measured and injectors are checked first.
Two injectors need replacement, after that we will run the engine hot - as they say here by `putting the gas lever to the wood' and continue the analysis.

This is how the new kitchen counter top looks like. The sink is not yet connected and some
cabinets still lack doors.
|
![]() |
As `NOTHING IS STRAIGHT' they miss-cut the granite for the counter-top and so it will be
re-done.
|

But the finished counter looks nice!

Now we at least conform to the Rhine regulations by having two VHF radios. Since the UK never signed the European Inland waterway treaty however the two radios are not equipped with the ATIS - automatic transmission identification system as required by all other European (even non EU!) countries.
