The Saône through
Lyon
April 24 - afternoon
Our passage through Lyon. We leave the Rhone and enter the quietly flowing Saône.
A also make a stop at a (floating) gas station to fill up the 350 liters of
Diesel we burned since Beaucaire.
The first few kilometers meander through the second largest city of France, Lyon.

A local road bridge and the freeway bridge (A7) over the Saône mark the confluence of the Rhone and the
Saône.

YACC - Yet Another Catholic Church - I think it is either the Catherdral St.-Jean or
the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere (sorry - I was busy driving).

Quite colorful houses

I guess Betty was fascinated with the city ....

finally we leave the center and the Saône splits into two around the Ile Barbe

Sorry, according to the guide book it is not just the Ile Barbe, but the romantic Ile Barbe. But not if you just pass by (I guess you feel that we soon have a mutiny on AvantiB).

A nice French summerhouse on the Saône

This was hard to pass by (at least for some of the crew). This was as close as we would get to the restaurant of Paul Bocuse on our trip!
Betty tells me that she will make reservations for our downstream trip in fall and if nobody wants to join he she will go alone!

But the charm of the riverside houses soon lets even the `Paula Bocuse of AvantiB' forget that she really wanted
to eat out. I guess that is what happens if you leave all the cruise planning up to the boys ;-)
